It is important, while describing the Beach House, to spend a few words to give some information about this part of Tuscany, so dear to the Italians, while not so famous among foreign visitors, It represents one of the most beautiful ramification of the so-called Maremma, land of locally grown cowboys. The entire area still keeps the special country atmosphere and it is also become a natural park, which is definetely worth the visit.
As far as the coast is concerned, two stunning big sandy beaches, the Feniglia and the Giannella, connect the two sides of the promontory of Mount Argentario to the mainland, embracing the Laguna of Orbetello, from the name of the small village right in the centre of it.

Reaching the coast from Rome - 120 km far - one meets first the village of Ansedonia and the beach of Feniglia ending in Porto Ercole, a pretty village with a marina on the south mountainside of the Argentario. After a few km on the coast is the access to the village of Orbetello through an impressive road that cut the Laguna. Further on the mainland, Albinia, another village, is the foot from which departs the dune of Giannella, ending, after 8 km, in the village of Porto Santo Stefano.

The Beach House
Formerly a warehouse for the charcoal produced in a large estate on the mainland, to be shipped North and South Italy, this building on the dune, only 15 metres from the sea, was at a time converted in a homely and comfortable summer house divided in two good class apartments - The Pinecone and The Shell - with a large enclosed shared garden which is accessed through a wrought iron gate.

Afterwards, when in the 60's the whole area was discovered by the holiday makers, villas, restaurants, dancings and beach clubs have been built to develop one of the best Italian summer resorts.

A large part of the garden consists of a pinewood, loosely set high, grown pine trees which give you all the shade you need.
Closer to the house the garden is planted with local Mediterranean plants such as myrtle, the yucca and rosmary
A beach of fine sand stretches along the coast.
The water is clean and unusally warm enough to swim in from mid-may October.
Apart from the main holiday month of August the beach is never too crowded.

The Pinecone on the ground floor has its entrance at the back of the house, the other , The Shell is reached by steps leading up to a balcony at the front of the house.
A gate leads from the garden directly to the sand beach.

This apartment is on the first floor and faces the sea and the setting sun.

Most of the rooms lead off the balcony which stretches along the entire façade with view onto the beach, making this feature an integral part of the house.

The decoration of the house is distinctly Mediterranean and enhances the simplicity of the house itself, using lively colors for the walls, combined with simple and charming local furniture. There is always a gentle breeze and even at the peak of summer it is never too hot.

Finally, the Maremma area is protected by the World Wildlife Fund for the importance and unicity of the Laguna and other Wet Zones, rich in biodiversity, where boars share the territory with migrator cormorants and herons, taking their rest in the protected oasis of Orbetello and Burano during their long journeys.. Guests could enjoy to spend some times to visit them.
